Job Description Summary The Executive Director is responsible for the intellectual leadership, theological vision, and operational effectiveness of the Faith Coordinating Center and deploying strategies among faith communities to address HIV/AIDS in the Southern United States.
In cooperation and collaboration with faculty and students at Wake Forest University School of Divinity, and with the other Coordinating Centers funded through Gilead Sciences, this position will provide oversight, leadership, and strategic direction of all programmatic initiatives for the center.
This includes the administration of operations to ensure compliance with the established objectives outlined in the grant, and established policies and procedures of Wake Forest University.
This position is responsible for oversight, integration and implementation of grant objectives and components, including collaborative learning, grants to community partners, and training.
Additionally, the position includes undertaking research and evaluating program outcomes.
This is a three-year term position funded by a grant from the Gilead COMPASS Initiative® through December 31, 2026.

Job Description Essential Functions: Lead strategies, plans, and execution efforts of the Faith Coordinating Center, facilitating successful completion of key goals, objectives, policies, and decisions formulated by the School of Divinity to address and impact theological education, stigma reduction, health promotion, and health equity for those most impacted by HIV and other health disparities.
Coordinate faith and health projects, faculty fellow programs, graduate student fellows programs, and oversee strategic partnerships, educational trainings, community engagement, and grantmaking.
Maintain and expand community partnerships with faith communities in order to address HIV/AIDS in the Southern United States; Actively engage and energize program partners, faith communities, and organizations to further the objectives of the Center.
Use evidenced-based strategies to help partners join efforts with collaborative learning, grants, and training.
Provide analysis and thought leadership to the PI on theological engagement, culture change, and healthy community strategies co-created with faith communities.
Create dissemination pathways to share learning and best practices on how faith communities contribute to interventions to reduce stigma, increase awareness, and lead to better health outcomes.
Collaborate with existing Gilead COMPASS Initiative® led Coordinating Centers to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the Southern region of the United States.
Each Coordinating Center is leading the provision of trainings and funding related to one of the four primary focus areas of COMPASS: 1) Capacity Building and Shared Knowledge, 2) Well-being, Mental Health, Substance Use, and Trauma-Informed Care, 3) Stigma Reduction and Culturally Appropriate Care, and 4) Faith-Based Advocacy and Spiritually Integrated Capacity Building.
Manage project-specific operations including overseeing program and financial reporting and grant allocation; assuring that established budget guidelines are maintained through the development, implementation, and monitoring of programs.
Knowledgeable and personally passionate about and committed to the LGBTQ+ community, and other communities most impacted by HIV and other health disparities.
Demonstrated cultural competency across multiple communities.
Experience working within marginalized communities is a plus.
Collaborate and communicate frequently with the principal investigator to keep them apprised of the project developments and assist them in the administration of awards.
This includes providing the PI with regular reports.
Carry out supervisory responsibilities including mentoring and supporting employees and graduate assistants, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, addressing concerns, and resolving problems.
Execute assigned job responsibilities in a manner that respects persons living and impacted by HIV/AIDS, the School of Divinity, Gilead Sciences, partners, and those involved in the successful operation of the Center.
Lead others by maintaining a professional demeanor, approaching others in a tactful manner, reacting well under pressure, treating others with respect, accepting responsibility for one’s own actions, and following through on commitments.
Demonstrate adaptability by adapting to changes in the work environment, managing competing demands and exhibiting the ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
Other Functions: Conduct individual and/or collaborative research projects aligned with the mission of the initiative and the School of Divinity.
Assess, interpret, and evaluate outcomes.
Write or contribute to publications or disseminate findings and best practices using various media platforms.
Extend intellectual understanding about faith communities’ needs and resources for addressing the public health crisis of HIV in under-resourced communities.
Collaborate on writing grants, when needed.
Periodic travel is required.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Graduate theological degree plus five or more years of nonprofit management experience in HIV/AIDS or public health, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience working with Black Faith communities, including experience working with diverse religious communities.
Demonstrate excellent strategic thinking, have the ability to maintain professional relationships, manage others effectively, and believe deeply in our mission.
Financial planning and management experience are required.
Must be comfortable in a work environment that supports and seeks change, creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement in methods and processes.
Ability to develop, operationalize, and prioritize workload for a team in order to maximize efficiency and effectiveness to achieve goals and objectives.
Excellent oral and written communications skills, with the ability to communicate accurately the theological vision, mission, and achievements of the Center.
Strong, creative problem-solver with the ability to work on multiple projects while adjusting quickly to shifting priorities.
Ability to analyze and consider the implications of proposed actions and decisions on the whole of the organization.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Meet deadlines, exercise good judgment, and handle pressure situations.
Demonstrated success in initiating and building relationships with a diverse set of constituents, including students, faculty, advisory board members, trustees, donors, grantor organizations, community members, and faith leaders.
Strong analytical, project management, and organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
High proficiency in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, and other organizational technology needs.
Proficiency in Google suite (Google forms, sheets), and/or other relevant software.
Ability to take direction, work independently, and work with others as part of a team.
Ability to work in the evenings and on weekends at peak times.
Ability to travel occasionally.
