DESCRIPTION OF CURRENTLY FUNDED PROJECTS The “Leveraging an academic Learning Health System (aLHS) approach to promote HPV Vaccination” is a small-scale, internally funded project to assess the status of HPV vaccine uptake in the post-pandemic era and identify opportunities to improve acceptance of evidence-based HPV vaccine recommendations among Atrium Health patients in the Piedmont Triad and greater Charlotte regions.
The first stage of the project will use electronic health record data to assess HPV vaccination status among patients over time.
The second stage will convene focus groups and creative ideation workshops with healthcare system leadership and other stakeholders to identify and assess opportunities to improve HPV vaccine acceptance among priority target populations affiliated with Atrium Health.
Finally, findings from this pilot, small-scale project will be used to develop grant applications to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of identified interventions/strategies for improving HPV vaccination uptake and acceptance.
“Understanding and enhancing health-related social needs screening among community oncology practices” is a three-year project funded by the National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP).

In the first phase, we will train NCORP practice staff to conduct an in-depth assessment of current HRSN screening practices in approximately 45 specialty clinics.
In the second phase, we will interview key stakeholders from a subset of those clinics to identify barriers and facilitators influencing HRSN screening implementation.
In the third phase, we will conduct co-design sessions with patients, providers, and other stakeholders from 4 clinics to develop tailored implementation plans to enhance HRSN screening in those clinics.
The assistant project manager role will support all phases of the project, however, focusing primarily on coordination of timelines, budget, adherence to protocol, synthesis of qualitative research findings, and literature reviews for grant writing, with the direction and support of more senior project managers.
Support to other projects under development by the PIs related to addressing health-related social needs in oncology may be requested.
