Project Manager I, Implementation Science

The Department of Implementation Science at Wake Forest University School of Medicine focuses on three core areas of inquiry and translation: The use of health services research to identify opportunities for improved care delivery, prioritizing organizational, health systems and policy gaps and solutions.
Identifying efficacious, efficient and cost-effective solutions to implementing the best and most promising health care and public health practices.
Testing implementation and dissemination strategies to more efficiently and effectively translate evidence-based strategies into real world clinical and population health settings.
JOB SUMMARY Qualified candidate will support our global substance use and infectious diseases work in the areas of alcohol use, injection drug use, HIV and HCV.
In particular, the Project Manager will help coordinate NIAAA and NIDA funded research studies focused on intervention development and implementation science to enhance global health equity with programmatic and policy implications for vulnerable populations.
The position will include a broad range of responsibilities in project administration and research/evaluation in both domestic and international settings.
The first six months to a year will primarily focus on work conducted in rural areas of the United States and then shift focus to work conducted in sub-Saharan Africa.
The position requires background or training in one or more of the work’s topical and technical areas of focus, as well as ability to travel, attention to detail, excellent organization, communication skills, comfort interacting with international research teams, and the ability to function both independently and in teams.
Travel will be required approximately six weeks throughout the year.
In collaboration with the study investigators, the Project Manager must direct, coordinate and assume responsibility for various aspects of the study/project directed toward planning, implementation, evaluation, writing, and dissemination of study findings.
This classification requires judgment and discretion in performing the assigned duties and responsibilities related to the project.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Public Health, Psychology, or Sociology with three years of relevant administrative and medical experience in research projects or other health related activities; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Supervisory ability.
Master's degree in a relevant discipline with experience beyond three years preferred.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrates knowledge of scientific principles Experience in both single- and multi-center studies Additional Desirable Qualifications Experience with the use of statistical software (Stata, SAS, R) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Work with the study investigators and senior staff to coordinate the successful and timely completion of tasks that comprise the implementation, data collection, data acquisition, and analysis phases of the project, including planning, development, implementation, evaluation, writing, and dissemination of study findings.
Assist with compiling and writing scientific progress reports.
Represent the Program in Implementation Science to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist investigators and other researchers, serving as the liaison and representative.
Oversees the operational activities at the clinical site(s) and coordinates the activities of a multi-center study or multiple large studies.
Collaborates with principal investigator(s) in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results.
Negotiates protocol changes with funding agency/sponsor.
Supervise and coordinate the data analysts and other support staff.
Assist in hiring data analysts, research students and other support staff, and instruct new team members about research procedures and protocols.
Translates planning and design decisions into concrete activities and tasks for project implementation and sets priorities for project implementation.
Conducts site visits (domestic and international) to evaluate and support staff and study activities.
Assist in preparing IRB applications, data use agreements, contracts, and subcontracts.
Assist in managing project finances and arranging disbursements and payments from the study budget.
Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
