Description
Under immediate supervision, the Playfield Leader for the Therapeutic Recreation Unit is responsible for assisting with implementing programs for people with disabilities (various ages) and Special Olympics Forsyth County events and sports trainings and does related work as required.
Seasonal position (16 weeks) from February to June, up to 40 hours per week.
Typical hours are between 10 am and 6 pm, Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekends.
Examples of Duties
Supervise participants for safety, engage them in program activities, etc.
Assist with preparing programs and activities.
Assist Therapeutic Recreation Unit Staff with implementing various programs for people with various disabilities.
Assist Therapeutic Recreation Unit Staff with implementing Special Olympics Forsyth County sports trainings, and special events.
Attend and participate in all required trainings.
Some evening and/or weekend work may be required.
Other duties as apparent or assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED, some experience working with youth and adults with disabilities are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General knowledge of the methods and practices of community recreation work including knowledge of equipment and techniques, relevant rules, and regulations of social, artistic/crafts, and/or athletics programs.
Ability to instruct common recreational activities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, program participants, and the public.
Ability to enforce rules and regulations and maintain discipline.
Ability to prepare and maintain records (Incident/Accident reports).
Supplemental Preferred Qualifications:
First Aid/CPR preferred.
Experience with youth and adults with disabilities preferred.
Background in Therapeutic Recreation/Community Recreation preferred.
