Director of Music and Arts - St Paul United Methodist Church
Summary:
St Paul United Methodist Church of Winston-Salem, NC (SPUMCWS) is seeking a part-time Director of Music and Arts to model, serve, and lead the body of Christ in worship, discipleship, and outreach through the music and art ministries.
The person in this role must demonstrate a focused effort that elicits confidence, provides encouragement, creates engagement, and inspires excitement about the present and the future of music at SPUMCWS.
As the church moves into our 153rd year, the church strives to continue the growth as a strong music ministry reflective of the needs of our community.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director of Music and Arts is responsible for the development and promotion of the music, arts, and drama ministry of the church.
Direct the planning, organizing, conducting, and evaluating of a comprehensive music and worship program including choirs, dance, vocal and/or instrumental ensembles.
Develop a music and arts ministry that displays a balance of Gospel, spirituals, contemporary and other musical genres.
Schedule choirs, dance units, musicians, and sound personnel for all worship celebrations within the church and engagements outside the church (including but not limited to all Sunday worship, funerals, special invitations to pastor and church, special community events)
Recommend, assist in hiring and supervising all choir directors, dance unit leaders, musicians and sound personnel.
Lead budget development for music, dance, sound for worship
Maintain authorization log for copyright material and obtain authorization for church to perform and/or copy artist’s material.
Maintain church copyright license.
Lead all units in taking the ministry beyond the walls into the community.
Train and staff the music, worship, and media ministry to carry out the mission of each ministry in accordance with budget and operational guidelines.
Supervise the work of assigned paid and non-paid staff workers, as applicable.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
Demonstrated commitment to God through Jesus Christ
Demonstrated proficiency in a variety of music disciplines (directing, playing, teaching parts)
Significant experience with contemporary and traditional Gospel music
Exhibit a high degree of musicianship across multiple genres of music
Bachelor of Arts in Music or equivalent years of experience
5+ years of experience in vocal music and/or instrumental music groups
Proven leadership skills in the field of music and arts.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Preferred Skills:
Extensive network of resources in the music industry.
Experience in mentoring and developing music and arts leaders.
