General Statement of Duties
Forsyth County Central Library has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic library professional to manage the day to day operations of the Access Services Department.
This Library Supervisor position sets the tone as the main point of first contact at the Central Library.
This is a full time position and must be able to work nights and weekends.
The Access Services Supervisor is responsible for all areas of library service related to circulation, collection maintenance for the Adult popular collection, fiction and AV and a portion of Adult Programming at the Central Library.
Duties include considerable public contact requiring tact and courtesy with a goal of excellent customer service to customers of all ages.
The Library Supervisor will demonstrate competencies in current technology and electronic resources and will at times be assigned to assist customers using the public computers.
Distinguishing Features
Duties include supervision of library staff, management of the day-to-day operation of the department, short and long-term planning for the department, collection maintenance and development; library program planning and execution; PR and marketing of library programs and services; and reference, information and readers advisory services.
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of library science.
Knowledge of integrated library systems
Knowledge of library supervision and management practices.
Proficient computer competencies.
Ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the library.
Knowledge of current literature, trends and developments in the field of library science and administration of appropriate to the area of specialization.
Minimum Education and Experience
Master of library science degree from an ALA accredited library school and at least three years experience in professional library work.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Must obtain certification of the North Carolina Public Librarian Certification Commission.
A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
Maintain a valid drivers license.
Lifting up to 20 lbs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises the daily operation of library services for an assigned section.
Conducts performance appraisals, assigns and reviews work, participates in recruitment and selection activities, schedules staff, conducts staff meetings and provides training.
Responsible for collection development and maintenance in assigned unit.
Responsible for ongoing planning for section to include goals and objectives, five-year plan and departmental budget.
Answers reference/research/directional questions using a wide variety of sources.
Advises staff on where to find the answer to difficult reference questions.
Resolves complaints from patrons and acts as liaison between the library and the community.
Develops and implements special programs that enhance service.
May work in providing publicity for library services.
Prepares special studies and statistical reports.
Performs related work as required.
